Waste dumping at Dhaka’s landfill sites goes well

Matuail landfill siteThousands of tonnes of cattle waste have been dumped properly at Dhaka’s two sanitary landfill sites on the occasion of Eid-ul-Azha, authorities said.
The landfill site of Dhaka South City Corporation’s (DSCC) is located in the city’s Matuail on a-100 acre of land while Dhaka North City Corporation’s (DNCC) site is on Aminbazar at the outskirts of the city.
On spot visits to both sites, city workers were seen busy in managing the waste disposal. A total of 363,343 tonnes of waste has been dumped at both sites in the 36 hours from the afternoon of Eid-ul-Azha on Aug 22, city officials said.
The DSCC authorities prepared three more spots, adjoining to Matail landfill site to manage cattle waste disposal on the occasion of Eid. They also cancelled the staff’s Eid leaves.
“We’ve kept ready six platforms for waste management during the Eid. We’ve only used three,” DSCC Executing Engineer AHM Abdullah Harun told Bangla Tribune.
Aminbazar landfill siteSources at DSCC said a total of 23,049 metric tonnes of waste were dumped at the Matuali landfill site between Aug 19 and Aug 25.
According to sources at DNCC, 10,434 metric tons of waste was dumped at Aminbazar landfill site between Aug 22 and Aug 24.
“We have the adequate arrangement to mage the waste during the Eid and our employees are working relentlessly,” DNCC Chief Waste Management Officer Abul Hasnat told Bangla Tribune.
