“A group of miscreants opened fire on the DB team, led by Assistant Superintendent of Police Shahadat Hossain, when they tried to raid the building. In retaliation, the DB officials fired back.”
He said critically injured Jahangir was admitted to Square Hospital around 1 am. Later, he died at the hospital around 2 am.
“Hearing the news, DMP Commissioner Asaduzzaman Mia and other high officials went to the spot and also visited Square Hospital,” DC Masud further added.
DB sources said the drive was conducted to recover the stolen arms of two police sergeants, which were lost from Mirpur a month back.
The members of Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) went to the spot after hearing about the gunfight and detained four people from the building.
