Veteran writer Rabeya Khatun received the lifetime achievement award, while popular writer Sadat Hossain received the award in young litterateur category.
The winners also received cheques of Tk 500,000 and 100,000 respectively along with certificates and crests.
Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen and former Cultural Affairs Minister Asaduzzaman Noor handed over the awards. The event was presided over by National Professor Anisuzzaman.
Rabeya Khatun has written over 50 novels and more than 400 short stories.
She won the Bangla Academy Literary Award in 1973, Ekushey Padak in 1993 and Independence Day Award in 2017.
Sadat Hossain, on the other hand, has published six novels and is already a household name, with a large fan-base among teenage readers.
The writer said how Humayun Ahmed inspired him to become a writer.
“Most readers from my generations grew up reading his books,” he said. “He told stories in a way that felt personal and relatable. As a reader, I was touched by this feeling.
Maybe that subconsciously inspired me to observe life, people and minds around me.”
The EXIM Bank-Anyadin Humayun Ahmed Literary Award is awarded to two writers, one senior and one upcoming, every year since 2015 on the eve of the late writer’s birthday.
Remembered for his novels and adored by readers from all walks of life, Humayun Ahmed was also a dramatist, screenwriter, and film-maker, who won six National Film Awards.
