US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo has urged Myanmar to create a conducive environment so that Rohingyas can go back to Rakhine.
He made the call when he met Myanmar Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Kyaw Tin in Singapore on the margins of the ASEAN-centered ministerial Saturday.
“They discussed ongoing efforts to implement democratic reforms in Burma, seek peace and national reconciliation, and to create suitable conditions for the return of Rohingya refugees, including ensuring accountability for human rights abuses and implementing the recommendations of the Advisory Commission on Rakhine State,” said a State Department press release.
The secretary urged Myanmar to release two jailed Reuters reporters and protect freedom of the press.
