In the results published on Friday (Dec 13), Rupa bagged 28, 132 votes while her contender Julian Gallant won 14,832.
The 47-year-old Labour party lawmaker is a sociology graduate from Kingston University where she also served as a senior lecturer before stepping into politics.
She has been vocal in the UK parliament over national issues and also called out current Prime Minister Boris Johnson for his 2018 comments comparing burqa-clad women to letter boxes in his newspaper column.
