REUTERSMamata Banerjee, the Chief Minister of India's West Bengal state alleged of human rights violation in the Kashmir on Monday (Aug 19). In a series of two tweets on World Humanitarian Day, the All India Trinamool Congress (AITC) chief wrote:

"Today is World Humanitarian Day. Human rights have been totally violated in Kashmir. Let us pray for human rights and peace in Kashmir."

Adding that the subject was very close to her heart and she had in past also taken to the roads for the cause, she said, "Human rights is a subject very close to my heart. In 1995, I was on the road for 21 days to protect human rights violations against deaths in lock-ups."

Meanwhile, BJP appointed Governor Satya Pal Malik led Jammu and Kashmir administration has been imposing restrictions in the disputed region following the abrogation of Article 370 in the Indian constitution.

Mamata Banerjee had been critical of the Narendra Modi's move on Jammu and Kashmir and said that the "process of scrapping" Article 370 of the Constitution was wrong.

The BJP-led central government has recently revoked provisions of Article 370 that gave special status to Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) and bifurcated the state into union territories - Jammu and Kashmir with a legislature and Ladakh without one.
