On Saturday, BBC’s South Asia bureau chief, Nicola Careem, posted a video which showed police in Kashmir firing on a civil protest against the dissolution of Article 370. However, India denied the reports of firing.
The leading bureaucrat and head of Jammu and Kashmir police gave a joint statement, saying: “This sort of news is motivated and concocted; do not pay any heed to it.”
The Indian home ministry spokesperson dismissed Reuters and BBC news, calling them baseless.
IG of Kashmir posted that Kashmir is peaceful for the last seven days.
Meanwhile, the Washington Post also wrote that women are on the streets demanding the withdrawal of the revocation order.
The Indian government has been trying in the last 48 hours to denounce all international media, which is unprecedented.
Security analyst of Jane’s Defence Weekly, Rahul Bedi said: “The government is confident that with the military force it can stifle the agitation and outrage of the protesters in Kashmir; for this, they are willing to turn whole of Kashmir into an army garrison.”
It’s believed that in Indian administered Kashmir there are seven hundred thousand troops now and an additional two hundred thousand can be mobilized within days if needed.
AJIT DOVAL: THE MASTERMIND BEHIND KASHMIR GAME-PLAN
It’s believed that in the Kashmir game plan, an important role has been played by Indian national security adviser, Ajit Doval, known as Modi’s James Bond.
The former head of intelligence is known for his audacious decisions; in Islamabad, he worked as an Indian spy disguised a Muslim for seven years. After coming to NSA five years ago, Doval has been working on a Kashmir strategy.
In the last few years, he has been coming to Kashmir regularly to talk to military personnel, the locals and people from all spheres of society.
On Wednesday, he was seen eating biriyani with the locals, promising that everything will be alright soon.
On Friday, he went to the market selling sacrificial animals for Eid ul Azha and even bargained over a sheep.
Many assert that the current move in Kashmir is a result of the ‘Doval Doctrine’.
A supporter of Kashmir’s self-determination, Shamima Shaul, says: “As part of the Doval doctrine, Hindus are being brought from all over India to settle in Kashmir, separate colonies for retired army officers are being constructed.”
There is a widespread feeling that this doctrine aims to decimate the unique identity of Kashmir.
Historian Ramchandra Guha observes: “There is a similarity between the move in Kashmir and the demolition of the Babri mosque 27 years ago – both happened in the hands of radical Hindus. The Babri incident shattered India’s secular image and the last nail in the coffin is the revocation of Kashmir’s special status.”
