The announcement was made at an event held at a Dhaka hotel on Tuesday (Jan 14).
Bangladesh is the very first market in which ZEE5 is rolling out its local content production, which means they will be making Bangla content in collaboration with local creators, for both Bangladeshi and international viewers.
In the coming months, ZEE5 Global will roll out two Bangladeshi originals: a film titled 'Jodi..Kintu..Tobuo' and a web series titled 'Contract'. Both originals will feature Bangladeshi actors and are being produced in partnership with Good Company, a Bangladeshi production house.
'Jodi..Kintu..Tobuo' is directed by Shihab Shaheen, and the plot revolves around a groom who gets cold feet before his wedding day.
On the other hand, Contract is a web series based on Mohammad Najim Uddin's novel. The thriller series will show a cat-and-mouse chase involving a contract killer, a cop, and an underworld don. The series will be directed by Krishnendu and Tanim.
ZEE5 representatives also shared details of its upcoming talent hunt competition, titled Bangladesh’s Global Superstar. The hunt will be launched in January, and through this hunt, ZEE5 aims to provide a global stage to the vast number of artistes in Bangladesh. The artistes selected from the talent hunt will receive the chance to feature in ZEE5 originals.
In order to participate, an artiste will have to upload their auditions - along with some basic details about themselves - on the website www.global-superstar.com. A set of celebrity judges will shortlist the best five male and female artistes. The final leg of the hunt will end with two artistes being crowned as Bangladesh’s Global Superstars. Raw talent is the biggest evaluation criteria of this hunt.
Archana Anand, chief business officer of ZEE5 Global, said: “Bangladesh is a young country poised for massive growth, and the possibilities are tremendous. We’re very excited to be here in Dhaka to share the various initiatives that we will be rolling out over the next few months along with our local partners. Our vision is one of true collaboration in this very exciting market; where both of us ( ZEE5 and Bangladesh) grow and learn together to scale new heights.”
Archana also informed that ZEE5 Global will soon establish an office in Bangladesh, in order to better collaborate with Bangladeshi artistes and content creators on a large scale.
