Wanted to be a Footballer, became an Actor

Razzak (1942-2017)Razzak is the Guardian of Bangla film. It is impossible to imagine Bangla film industry without him. But he wanted to be a player- a clever goalkeeper, dependence of goalpost. But the fate made him an actor.

At that time he lived in Calcutta. He was a student of class seven. He studied in Khanpur High School. At that time he was crazy about football. Most of the times he was found in the playgrounds rather than study table. 

At that time, girls dominated in the dramas arranged in the cultural functions. Most of the time girls performed in the plays. Rabindranath Chakrabarty, a teacher of this school, took a new decision that he would dramatize a play performed by the boys. For this, he selected Bidrohi (Rebel), a drama without a woman character.

The question aroused, who would be the hero? That time Razzak was busy with football matches. The teacher ordered, ‘catch and bring him here.’ Then he was told to perform in this drama.

Thus, through the character of rural teenage character Razzak’s involvement with acting started. A new journey started with this; this journey gave him the crown named‘Nayokraz’.

In 1964, he went to East Pakistan. In the beginning, he earned fame among the viewers through his acting in a drama serial of Pakistan Television named ‘Ghoroa’. After facing various obstacles he got the chance to work with Abdul Jabbar Khan as an assistant director.  Later, through a film named ‘Tero Nombor Feku Ostagar Len’ of Salauddin Productions, he appeared on the film screen. Also in this first performance, he put the signature mark of his good acting quality. After that, he performed in different small characters in ‘Kar Bou’,‘Dak Babu’, ‘Akheri station’ and some films. Later his astonishing career as a hero of Dhaliwood started through the film ‘Behula’. He performed in about three hundred Bengali and Urdu films. He also gave direction in 16 films.

He performed as the best hero of  ‘Dhaliwood’ with success till 1990. Through this, he earned the title of ‘Nayokraj’ and some other prestigious rewards. He got National film awards for several times. Besides this Razzak was a UNFPA goodwill ambassador.

He produced several notable films from his production company Rajlakshmi Productions. Among these there are popular and commercially successful films ‘Akankha’, ‘Ononto Prem’, ‘Pagla Raja’, ‘beiman’, ‘Aponjon’, ‘Mou Chor’, ‘Bodnam’, ‘Sat Vai’, ‘Chapa Dangar Bou’, ‘Jiner Badsha’, ‘Dhaka-86’, ‘Baba Keno Chakor’, ‘Moron Niye Khela’, ‘Sontan Jokhon Shotru’, ‘Ami Bachte Chai’, ‘Koti Takar Fokir’ and many others.
