Anju Ghosh joins BJPJust a day after the West Bengal unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) courted controversy over the citizenship status of a Bangladeshi actress that it inducted in its ranks recently, the party has now produced her birth certificate, reports Times Now News.

She was born at a nursing home in Kolkata on Sept 17, 1966, according to the certificate.

It is interesting to note that BJP raised a storm when rival Trinamool Congress (TMC) invited Bangladeshi actors for campaigning in the run-up to the Lok Sabha elections and has now found itself mired in a similar situation.
Yesteryear Bangladeshi star Anju Ghosh who joined the BJP in the presence of West Bengal BJP chief Dilip Ghosh on Wednesday (Jun 5).
The actress, who played ‘Josna’ in the 1989 blockbuster ‘Beder Meye Josna’, said to be the highest grossing film in Dhallywood, has been living in West Bengal for a long time.

She ducked the question related to her citizenship when she was asked about it on Wednesday (Jun 5).
However, on Thursday (Jun 6), BJP West Bengal President Dilip Ghosh produced the “proof of her India citizenship” in a tweet.
“Anju Ghosh has recently joined our BJP. It has created some ripples and questions about her citizenship status. She is an Indian citizen and to rest all doubts, her “Birth Certificate” is the proof of her nationality,” he said.
The Indian Ministry of External Affairs had in April cancelled the business visa of Bangladeshi actor Ferdous Ahmed who campaigned for Mamata Banerjee led-Trinamool Congress (TMC) in West Bengal.
The MHA took the decision after receiving a report from the Bureau of Immigration regarding visa violations by Ferdous. The ministry also issued a ‘Leave India’ notice to the Bangladeshi actor, besides blacklisting his name.
The BJP had also moved the Election Commission after Bangladeshi actors were found to be campaigning for the ruling TMC in West Bengal. The BJP had demanded that the Bangladeshi actors be arrested.
