Subir Nandi’s body to be flown in Dhaka Wednesday

Subir Nandi. File Photo/FacebookThe body of eminent singer and composer Subir Nandi, who died early on Tuesday (May 7) while being treated at a hospital in Singapore, will be brought back to Dhaka early on Wednesday (May 8).
“Subir Nandi’s body will arrived in Dhaka by a flight of Regent Airways around 6am tomorrow,” Dr Samanta Lal Sen, coordinator of the Dhaka Medical College Hospital’s burns unit, told Bangla Tribune on Tuesday (May 7).
Dr Sen, who was also the coordinator of the Nandi’s medical treatment, said: “The body will be taken to the Central Shaheed Minar in Dhaka around 11am where people can pay their last respects.”
“Later, the body will be taken to Ramakrishna Mission and then to Bordesshwari Kali Mandir for funeral,” added Sen.
The National award-winning singer and composer, Subir Nandi, breathed his last around 4.30am (BdST) on Tuesday (May 7) while being treated at a hospital in Singapore.
In an emotional post on social media, Nandi’s daughter, Falguni Nandi wrote “…we could not do much for you, but you have received everything in life. We love you forever.”
Nandi, an Ekushey Padak winner, was taken to Singapore on Apr 30 under the instructions by the honourable Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
His health condition deteriorated early on Monday (May 6) as he suffered a third cardiac arrest at the hospital.
Earlier, he was taken to the Combined Military Hospital (CMH) in Dhaka on Apr 14 after he fell ill while returning to Dhaka from Srimangal by train.
The singer suffered a cardiac arrest soon after he was taken to the CMH emergency department.
In his 40-year singing career, he sang more than two thousand and five hundred songs in Radio, Television and Films.
His first solo album, ‘Subir Nandir Gan’, was released in 1981 and he started his career as a playback singer in 1976 with the film ‘Surya Grahan’.
Nandi received the National award for the fourth times and this year, he was awarded the Ekushey Padak.
His sang many notable songs and prominent among them are: ‘Amar a duti chokh’, ‘Bondhu hote ceye’, ‘Ami bristir kach theke kadte shikhechi’, ‘Chader kolonko ache’, ‘Din jaw kotha thake’, ‘Ekta chilo sonar konna’, ‘Hajar Moner Kache’, ‘Kotoje tomake besechi valo’, ‘Paharer Kanna Dekhe’, ‘Bondhu hote ceye tomar’.
