Ailing singer Subir Nandi will be flown to Singapore for better treatment on Monday (Apr 29) on the instruction of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
“In line with the prime minister’s orders, all preparations have been taken to transport Subir to Singapore by an air ambulance tomorrow [Monday],” Deputy Press Secretary to PM Ashraful Alam Khokon told Bangla Tribune on Sunday (Apr 28).
The singer has been put on life support a day after he was admitted to Dhaka’s Combined Military Hospital on Apr 14.
The PM’s instruction came after Dr Samanta Lal Sen, coordinator of Dhaka Medical College Hospital's Burn and Plastic Surgery Unit and a relative of Subir, met Hasina on Sunday to brief her on the signer’s condition.
“The PM asked about the feedback on the singer’s condition from doctors at Singapore General Hospital,” said Dr Samanta adding that he informed her that Singapore doctors have agreed to treat Subir Nandi.
An air ambulance of Singapore General Hospital will land Dhaka on Monday afternoon, said Dr Samanta.
Nandi performed on radio, television, film and live at the stage during his career that spans nearly four decades.
He won Bangladesh National Film Award for Best Male Playback Singer in 1984, 1986, 1999, 2004 and 2015, Citibank Lifetime Achievement award in 2012, Bangladesh Film Journalist Association awards in 1977, 1982, 1985 and 1986, and Ekushey Padak for music this year.
