Bollywood superstar Sanjay Dutt is in Dhaka after nine years, this time to grace the Bangabandhu Gold Cup.
The superstar remembered the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in his speech while inaugurating the logo of the tournament on Thursday (Mar 28).
Sanjay reminisced about post-Independence Bangladesh when his father late actor Sunil Dutt visited the country with other Bollywood stars.“My father shared friendly relations with Bangabandhu,” he said.
“Bangladesh holds a very special place in my heart. I will visit once again if I receive an invitation,” he added.
The actor had visited Dhaka for five hours back in 2010 to inaugurate a business event.
This time he is visiting at the invitation of the sponsors of the tournament.
Actor calls on PM
The Indian actor paid a courtesy call on Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at her official Ganabhaban residence.
PM’s Press Secretary Ihsanul Karim briefed reporters after the meeting.
He said Sanjay Dutt handed over a number of photos of an Indian cultural delegation which they had taken with Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and his family members during their (cultural team) visit to Bangladesh immediately after independence.Legendary singer Lata Mangeshkar, Sanjay Dutt’s father and eminent Indian film actor-turned politician Sunil Dutt were, among others, in the cultural team, he added.
Ihsanul Karim said the prime minister recalled India’s unequivocal support to Bangladesh’s liberation war.
Information Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud and PM’s private sector development affairs advisor Salman F Rahman was present at the meeting, among others.
