A man who was in the next hospital bed of a coronavirus victim has died in Khulna.
Mostahidur Rahman, 45, died while undergoing treatment at Khulna Medical College Hospital on Thursday (Mar 26), the hospital’s Director ATM Manjur Morshed confirmed.
Before he was brought to Khulna, Mostahidur was in the ICU of a private hospital in Dhaka for thyroid surgery and was in the bed next to a person who died of Covid-19.
Morshed said that the deceased was discharged by the Dhaka hospital and was asked to stay in home quarantine but he went to Khulna Medical College Hospital with thyroid surgery infection on Wednesday (Mar 24) without informing authorities about his exposure.
He added that he started having breathing trouble on Thursday (Mar 26) when he told the doctors of his exposure.
He died at 1:30 pm while being treated in an empty ward, Dr Morshed said before adding that the 16 people who attended to Mostahid have been put in quarantine.
Among the 16 are- 10 nurses, two doctors and two hospital staff.
Khulna Medical College Hospital Corona unit in-charge Dr Shoilendranath Biswas said that had he not hidden his exposure history, Mostahid would not have been kept at the surgery unit.
He added that 30 percent of the patients were leaving after his death.
