Forced marriage of victim to rapist: Pabna OC withdrawn, SI suspended

OC of Pabna police Obaidul Hoque (l) and Sub-Inspector Ekramul Haque (r).The officer-in-charge (OC) of Pabna police Obaidul Hoque has been withdrawn over the forced marriage of rape victim to one of the assailants at the police station.
Authorities have also suspended Sub-Inspector Ekramul Haque of the same police station.
Pabna’s Superintendent of Police (SP) Sheikh Rafiqul Islam made the announcement on Thursday (Sept 12), when he also informed that two more arrest have been made over the incident.
Four people have been arrested in the case so far.
A mother of three was raped by Rasel Ahmed and a cohort on Aug 29; two days later, on Aug 31 she was taken and locked in an office where, four to five men violated her. When the woman came back and told her relatives, she was admitted to the Pabna General Hospital on Sept 5 and the victim lodged a complaint at the station.
The police then arrested Rasel and had him married to the woman though the latter has a husband and then, tried to suppress the event.
