A court in Narayanganj has sentenced a man to death in the killing of a minor in 2018.
District and Session Judge Anisur Rahman handed the order in presence of the lone convict of the case, Ohidul Islam Ohid on Monday (Jul 21), said prosecutor’s lawyer Wazed Ali Khokon.
Ohidul Islam, a resident of the city’s Jallarpar area, hails from Char Hasan village of Noakhli’s Char Jabbar Upazila.
According to case documents, on Aug 16, 2018, Shihabuddin Alif, 4, son of Alamgir Hossain, went missing since the morning.
After failing to trace out Alif, who resided with the family at a rented house in Jallarpar area, the family informed the police.
Later in the day, police recovered the body wrapped in a polythene bag from a pile of concrete in Ohid’s house in the same area.
On the next day, the victim’s father filed a murder case with Sadar police accusing Ohid.
Police arrested the suspect and he confessed to killing the boy in the court.
Later police pressed charges against the accused and the court indicted him on Feb 26 this year.
The court delivered its verdict on Monday after it had recorded the deposition of 14 out 16 witnesses.
Victim’s family, however, were satisfied over the court order as Alif’s mother demanded immediate execution of the verdict.
