Why Rohingyas are not interested in birth control?

Rohingyas are not interested to accept birth controlFamily Planning Department of Bangladesh is working to bring the Rohingyas under the birth control services. For this reason, more than 200 activists are working in the Ukhiya and Teknaf Rohingya camps of Cox's Bazar and creating awareness on birth control among Rohingya women and men. But it is a matter of concern that Rohingyas are not interested in birth control. 

More than one children in Rohingya familiesRohingya women said that in Myanmar, we didn’t get any services for birth control even we didn’t hear about it. There was no medical service for this. But we heard about the birth control pill after reaching in Bangladesh. Although many Rohingya women are interested to take this, their husbands are not and vice versa.    

Rohingya Women Zarina Begum and Mariam Khatun said, If Allah gives a child, and then it is a sin to control it. So, there is no need to take pills. It is against the tenets of Islam. There was nothing like that in Myanmar. 

Rohingya men Abdul Shukkur and Farid Alam said, since coming to Bangladesh, doctors told us for many times about birth control. But our women are not interested to take such services but still, now we are trying to convince them.

According to the Cox's Bazar Family Planning Department, the government is approaching in three ways to bring the Rohingyas under birth control services. These are: the injection which controls the birth for three months, birth control pills, and condoms.

Deputy Director of Cox's Bazar Family Planning Department Pintu Kanti Bhattacharya said, ‘More than 25 thousand Rohingya pregnant women are fled from Myanmar since August 25. Among them, more than 700 children have been born and about 10 thousand women are about to give birth.
