‘Drug peddler’ killed in Mymensingh ‘shootout’

An alleged drug peddler has been killed in Mymensingh in what police describe as a shootout.
The incident was reported early on Sunday from Kalibari Bylane area in Mymensingh city, said police.
The victim is identified as Sharifur Rahman Sharif, 32 who police said was accused in seven cases.
“Being informed that a gang of drug peddlers gathered in the area to handle drugs, a team of police conducted drive around 1:45am. Sensing the presence of law enforcers, the drug peddlers hurled brick chips towards police, prompting them to fire back, triggering the shootout,” said Goyalanda police OC Shah Kamal Akand.
“Later, Sharif was rescued with bullet wounds and sent to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital where the doctor declared him dead,” added Akand.
Two policemen were injured, claimed the official adding that they recovered 100 pieces of Yaba tablet and 5kg hemp from the scene.
