Users of mobile financial services (MFS) can no more check their balances for free.
According to a directive of Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) issued on Jun 13, clients will have to pay Tk 0.40 to operators for checking balances from their mobile phones.
Every transaction, checking balance or statement will be counted as a session and the duration of such session will be 90 seconds. For each session, comprising of two text messages, the telecom operators will have to be given TK 0.85, according to the telecom regulator’s directive.
However, it’s yet to be clear whether the MFSs will bear the cost or it will be imposed on the users.
