Information Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud has said Direct to Home (DTH) service will bring discipline in the country’s broadcasting sector and reach broadcast services at the doorsteps of marginal people.

Hasan said the refuses of cables are often found in the city streets and once DTH service is widely introduced the garbage of wires would be removed. “People would be able to watch TV programmes applying DTH service, without facing any trouble,” he added.
He said frequently quarrels arise over the cutting of dish cables in the country and the newly introduced DTH service will help bring down such disputes.
The information minister said the government is trying to bring discipline in the broadcasting sector as now local commercials are being broadcast on foreign television channels.
Noting that the government passed a broadcasting act in 2006, he urged the country’s cable operators to follow the existing law of the land in broadcasting advertisements.
Hasan warned the cable operators that stern action would be taken against them from July this year if any operator broadcasts commercials on foreign TV channels.

Highlighting the government’s achievements, the information minister said Bangladesh has reached a new height under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
Later, Dr Hasan formally inaugurated the DTH service at the event, state news agency BSS reports.
Beximco Communications Limited has brought to the nation the first ever world standard DTH service in Bangladesh under the brand name of Akash.
Speaking at the event, Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi said DTH Akash has brought the dream of Digital Bangladesh one step ahead.
The technology should reach at every corner of the country so that people can be benefitted of the Bangbandhu Satellite-1, he said, adding this wireless technology will ensure information and entertainment service in remote areas.
Private Industry and Investment Adviser to the Prime Minister and Vice Chairman of Beximco Communications Salman F Rahman was, among others, present at the event.

DTH service – Akash – will be commercially available from May 19, 2019 at authorised retails in 20 districts – Dhaka, Mymensingh, Tangail, Kishoreganj, Narsingdi, Gazipur, Narayanganj, Manikganj, Cumilla, Noakhali, Feni, Cox’s Bazar, Chattogram, Khagrachari, Rangamati, Sylhet, Moulvibazar, Habiganj, Brahmanbaria and Sunamganj.
