Representational imageInternet users in Bangladesh may experience slower speed by the end of April due to maintenance work on the country’s first submarine cable SEA-ME-WE-4.
Bangladesh Submarine Cable Company Limited (BSCCL) will replace the first and third repeaters of the cable at its Cox’s Bazar landing station from Apr 20 to May 1, the company said in a statement.
International circuits will remain closed during the replacement of repeaters resulting in a possible interruption in receiving services.
The second submarine cable of the country (SEA-ME-WE-5) and international terrestrial cable (ITC) connections will be live at the time, reads the statement.
However, the maintenance activities will not affect mobile users receiving international voice, data and internet services as BSCCL authority asked the IGW, IIG and other telecom operators concerned, to keep open the international circuit.
