REUTERS/file photoMobile phone internet services have been restricted again after it was unblocked for some four hours at the end of the voting to the 11th national election.
An official of mobile phone operator confirmed of receiving the telecom regulator’s directive after 10pm on Sunday (Dec 30) to shut faster 3G and 4G services.
Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) said the outage will remain in force until further orders from the regulator, the official told Bangla Tribune asking not to be named.
Around two hours after the voting ended at 4pm, operators reactivated their internet services on instructions from the regulator.
Late on Saturday (Dec 29), the regulator asked operators to completely shut down mobile internet, hours after it blocked 3G and 4G services.
The BTRC said then the move came to prevent rumours and propaganda surrounding the vote.
Mobile 3G and 4G data services were also shut down for 10 hours on Thursday (Dec 27) night and Friday (Dec 28) morning.
It resumed around 8:30 am on Friday only to be shut again on Saturday afternoon to a complete shutdown hours later on the eve of election.
