Mobile operators told to shut 3G, 4G services

The telecoms regulator has instructed mobile phone operators to shut 3G, 4G services until further notice.

Only 2G services will remain active, it said been asking operators to implement the directive immediately.
A top official of a mobile phone operator confirmed Bangla Tribune of the directive by Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC), which came late on Thursday (Dec 27).
“The process to shut 3G, 4G services has already started,” he said on condition of anonymity.

The move came following instructions from the Election Commission to slow down mobile internet speed, reports UNB.
As per the letter, the directive will remain in force until further notice, it said.
State-owned operator Teletalk’s Managing Director Md Shahab Uddin told the news agency that they received the regulator’s written directive around 11pm.
