The Quality of Service policy, QoS, of the mobile phone companies was approved and on Thursday, a gazette declared. Now, a discussion is underway as to when this will be implemented. Apparently, there seems to be simmering discontent among operators over the high price of Internet, weak network, low quality of voice calls etc.
According to the source, Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission, BTRC, is going to appoint a third company to assess the level of service of the mobile companies.
That company will assess the service of the mobile operators and submit a report to BTRC.
Post, telecommunication and information technology minister, Mustafa Jabbar, said: “we are now concerned about the quality of service and operators must improve the service, there’s no alternative.”
If BTRC feels that they will have the work done by a third entity then it’s their decision, said the minister.
Meanwhile, BTRC published call drop rates on 22 October which shows GP with 1.03 billion, ROBI with 760 million Banglalink with 360 million and Teletalk with 60 million drop numbers.
The QoS policy states that the minimum speed of 4 G Internet has to be 7 MBPS (Mega beats per second), for 3 G minimum 2 MBPS and for 2 G 160 KBPS (Kilo beats per second).
Operators have been told that any website should download within seven seconds and voice call drop rate must go below 2 per cent.
If this cannot be offered then BTRC will fine mobile companies. Apart from mobile companies, ISP, Wimax and BTCL have to adhere to QoS policy.
