Leading mobile operator Grameenphone has started selling its new phone number series starting with ‘013’.
Director General of Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) Mustafa Kamal unveiled the new number series at a Dhaka hotel on Sunday (Oct 14).
Grameenphone’s Deputy CEO and CMO Yasir Azman made the first official call of ‘013…’ series to Telecom Minister Mustafa Jabbar during the programme.
Earlier, the BTRC approved the new number series to Grameenphone, allowing it to sell two crore connections of 0130 and 0131 prefixes as its ‘017…’ series filled up to full 100 million capacity.
According to figure by Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Authority, Grameenphone leads the telecom sector in Bangladesh with a little over 70 million subscribers as of August 2018.
As of August this year, Grameenphone has 70 million active connections, according to the regulator.
The Bangladesh unit of Norway’s Telenor started its operation in March, 1997.
