Mashrafe Mortaza. FILE PHOTOBangladesh ODI captain Mashrafe Mortaza expressed his support towards the Bangladesh cricketers’ strike that was called on Monday (Oct 21).
Around 50 top cricketers of the country came in front of the media and placed an 11-point demand in order to improve the country’s cricket and vowed to abstain themselves from any cricketing activities until the Bangladesh Cricket Board meet their demands.
The group of cricketers who took the stance however, missed the presence of Mashrafe which raised a wide speculation both in the cricket fraternity and on social media platforms.
People tried to justified as to why Mashrafe did not join the players who have called the strike for the first time, after achieving Test status.
Mashrafe, on Monday night, took to his social media account to inform that he was not made a part of the movement but he is in full support for the betterment of the game in the country.
“Many are questioning why I was not present with the cricketers on such a day. I think it is better to ask them [the cricketers] and not me. I was not at all informed of this movement. I am sure that this [the movement] has been planned for some time now. But I was not aware of it and only got informed after watching their press conference,” said Mashrafe on a post on Facebook.
“I was always in support of the cricketers and I am with them, even now. I would have been with them today if I was informed. I thought a thousand times about why I was not made a part of this and there are many who wanted to know the reason from me,” said the Bangladesh captain.
“But at the end of the day, rather than my presence, addressing the 11 demands is more important. All the demands are rightfully correct and important for the betterment of the cricketers. I, Mashrafe Bin Mortaza, is and will be in support of the 11-point demand,” said Mashrafe.
The strike has put the ongoing National Cricket League [NCL] on hold and Bangladesh national team’s tour of India in jeopardy. The third round of the NCL was scheduled to start on Wednesday while the national team cricketers were scheduled to join the national camp for India on Friday.
The Bangladesh team is scheduled to travel to India for three T20Is and two Tests at the end of October.
