Announcing the appointment BCB President said Domingo’s vision for Bangladesh made him the ideal candidate for the role: “He has a wealth of experience and we have been very impressed with his passion and coaching philosophy. He has a clear idea of what is required to take the team forward.”

The 44-year-old South African has agreed on a two-year term with the BCB and is expected to arrive in Dhaka on Aug 21 to take charge of the National Team.

Domingo said he was eagerly looking ahead to his new challenge:

“I look forward to continuing the ongoing development of current players whilst also looking towards the future and developing some new bright stars from within the talent pool of Bangladesh cricket.”

The 44-year old remains the only South African coach to oversee a Proteas win in the knockout stage of the World Cup when the team eliminated Sri Lanka at the quarter-final stage in Sydney in 2015.

He was in charge of the Proteas for four years from 2013 until 2017.

Current Bangladesh batting coach Neil McKenzie and recently appointed pace bowling coach Charl Langeveldt were part of Domingo’s support staff during his tenure with the South Africa national team.

The post for the Bangladesh head coach went vacant after the BCB parted ways with Steve Rhodes by mutual understanding after the World Cup 2019.

Bangladesh finished eighth in the tournament and this made the BCB come to the decision, despite the agreement with Rhodes running till the World T20I 2020.
