Kiron retains AFC, Fifa positions

Fifa representative Kiron hands cheque to Hong kong football associationThe Bangladesh Football Federation’s women’s wing committee Chairman Mahfuza Akhter Kiron was elected as a female executive committee member of the Asian Football Confederation during the 29th Congress in Kuala Lumpur on Saturday (Apr 6).

Kiron, who secured the simple majority in the South Zone, will be joined on the AFC executive committee by Han Un Gyong (North Korea) for the East Zone, Kanya Keomany (Laos) for the Asean Zone and Susan RA Alshalabi (Palestine) for the West Zone.

Kiron also kept her position as a Fifa council member during the Congress. She will serve on the Fifa council for the next four-year term (2019-2023) alongside Du Zhaocai (China), Praful Patel (India), Kohzo Tashima (Japan), Mariano V Areneta Jr (Philippines) and Saoud A Aziz MA Al-Mohannadi (Qatar).

In an official statement released by the BFF, Kiron expressed delight after retaining her posts in the regulatory bodies of Asian and world football. She dedicated her achievements quoting, “I want to dedicate this day to a great lady – the honorable Prime Minister of Bangladesh Sheikh Hasina – who is a true inspiration of women empowerment.”

“First of all, I want to thank all my football family members from AFC and Fifa who have gifted me this day and fought for me through my tough times,” she was quoted as saying by the BFF.

Kiron, also thanked AFC president Sheikh Salman bin Ibrahim al Khalifa and her mentor BFF and Saff (South Asian Football Federation) President Kazi Salahuddin.
