Bangldeshi Cricket team leaving the spot after the New Zealand mosque attack on Mar 15.The Bangladeshi cricket team narrowly escaped the New Zealand mosque attack on Mar 15. They were on their way to offer their Friday prayers on the fateful day when the two mosques were massacred.
In face of the crisis, Tamim Iqbal who was on the bus with the rest of the team contacted Cricinfo’s Bangladesh Correspondent Mohammad Isam, who immediately rushed to their aid.
In a Tweet, Tamim said that he and the rest of the team will forever be grateful for what Isam has done for them.
Isam, who apparently went to help the Tigers with a few of his colleagues although there was no security, didn’t at first realise how grave the situation when Tamim called for help.
“Police had already blocked the intersection near the Al Noor Mosque when we reached,” Isam told Bangla Tribune.
He added that when he realised how dangerous the situation was, he spotted the bus carrying the cricketers and reached it as soon as possible.
“We reached Hagley Oval with the cricketers through the park. We wanted to run but Tamim stopped us saying that the police might mistake us for terrorists.”
