Mushfiqur Rahim has become the first Bangladeshi batsman to score two double centuries in Test match cricket with his unbeaten 219 runs on the second day of Mirpur Test against Zimbabwe.

He is also now the only wicket-keeper batsman to hit two double centuries, an incredible feat that sealed his place in the record book.

Bangladesh declared their first innings at the beginning of the 3rd session of the day at 522.

Mushfiq’s first double century came during the 2013 Test tour of Sri Lanka and today’s record-setting double ton also saw him score highest runs in an innings by a Bangladeshi batsman taking Shakib-Al-Hasan’s place who was at the top with 217.

Mushfiq started with yesterday’s 111 runs and went past Mominul’s 161 after lunch.

His innings came in 407 deliveries with 16 fours and one six that stretched over eight hours on the pitch.

Brief score:
Bangladesh 1st innings – 522 for 7, Mushfiqur 219, Mominul 161, Mehidy 68 n.o, Mahmudullah 36, Jarvis 5/71, Chatara 1/34 and Tiripano 1/65.
