Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP)Keeping the next parliamentary election in mind, BNP is carrying out discussions in different mediums. As part of their strategy, they are also engaging grass root levels.
On 3 August, Friday and 4 August, Saturday, several sessions, one in the morning and the other in the afternoon, will be held.
After talking to party policy makers, it was found that discussions will revolve around BNP’s participation in next elections, ongoing movement to secure the release of party chairman, Khaleda Zia and current status of grass roots.
Several party sources say: “the release of Khaleda Zia prior to election is not clear and since his bail and release are totally political, BNP has targeted the elections.”
The main aim of the discussion is to get an idea of grass root level workers and leaders.
The BNP high command also wants to pick the minds of grass root leaders about keeping or discarding Jamaat from the 20 party alliance.
On 3 February last, the executive committee meet was held where Khaleda Zia gave directions to leaders.
“I do not believe in political vendetta; there have been attempts in the past to break the BNP which was unsuccessful,” Khaleda Zia observed at that time.
BNP media wing member, Shairul Kabir Khan, told Bangla Tribune: “On Friday, talks will be held with leaders from Rajshahi division districts and the afternoon will be for those from Khulna-Barishal. On Saturday, talks will be with Dhaka, Faridpur and Mymensingh.”
BNP standing committee member, Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury, told Bangla Tribune: “we must listen to grass roots and then decision on future course of action will be taken.”
