Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP)Prior to the election, Jamaat had claimed to be in a secure position in Sylhet though their independent candidate got 10954 votes and had the deposit forfeited.
Local BNP leaders have said there’s no reason to keep Jamaat by the side since they left BNP during a time of crisis.
Meanwhile, Jamaat sees a conspiracy in the loss and said they will disclose their feelings officially later on.
Jamaat’s naebe ameer, Professor Mia Golam, told Bangla Tribune: “we are shocked by the low number of votes; this is not normal and feel there’s a profound ploy which was employed.”
A Jammat worker said most activists are students and, therefore, are voters in other areas.
BNP’s coordinator and standing committee member, Nazrul Islam Khan, told Bangla Tribune: “we will have discussions and set our future course of action.”
It’s felt that BNP does not want Jamaat in the 20 party alliance.
BNP’s Sylhet district president, Abdul Kaher Shamim, said: “We have told the high command that Jamaat’s support is no longer needed.”
