FILE PHOTO/Mehedi HasanConflict is rife within the ASM Abdur Rab-led Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (JSD) with the party’s General Secretary Abdul Malek Ratan denouncing the council scheduled for Dec 28 and calling a separate convention.
The convention will be held at a convention centre in Dhaka on Jan 11, Ratan told Bangla Tribune on Thursday (Nov 14).
He said that the conflicts for both political and organisational issues.
“Since the party does not have a charter, the council isn’t valid. We had suggested that the charter be prepared first and then the council can be held,” he said.
He added that Rab rejected the suggestion and refused to permit council with the previous charter either.
“Hence we’ll hold a new convention where we will fix the charter and manifesto through discussions,” he said.
Meanwhile, joint convener of the central council committee Siraj Mia said some people were spreading confusion about the party and disciplinary action as per the charter will be taken against those leaders unless they issue a public statement and get involved with the party’s central activities.
On the other hand Ratan claims that majority of the central council feel that the upcoming Dec 28 council is illegal.
“Amongst the political issues is Jatiya Oikya Front,” Ratan said before adding formation of the anti-government alliance was election-centred.
He said that unity will only last if the alliance is entirely agenda-based.
A reliable JSD source said that both Abdur Rab and his wife were working to negotiate with those against the council.
Rab, however, was unavailable for comments despite Bangla Tribune’s many attempts to reach him.
