Dr Shafiqur new Jamaat-e-Islami chief

He was voted the Ameer by the members (Rokon) of Jamaat-e-Islami, according to Jamaat's official website. He will be replacing Maqbul Ahmed, the previous Ameer.
The members cast their vote from October 17 to November 10. The results were published by Jamaat-e-Islami's central election commission on Tuesday (Nov 12).
Dr Shafiqur Rahman passed his MBBS exam from Sylhet Medical College in 1983. During his student life, Dr Shafiqur acted as the president of the Sylhet unit of Chhatra Shibir (the student wing of Jamaat-e-Islami). Later in 1985, he joined the Central Majlish-e-Shura.
In his many years with Jamaat, Dr Shafiqur occupied many important posts. Later in 1998, he was nominated as a member of the central administrative body of Jamaat, and from 2011 till now, he had been working as the secretary general.
