Jatiya Party (JP) Secretary General Mashiur Rahman Ranga adressing to the party discussion on Nov 10Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and BNP chief Khaleda Zia both are autocratic figures, says Jatiya Party (JP) Secretary General Mashiur Rahman Ranga.
According to him, his party founder HM Ershad wasn’t an autocrat leader as he didn't take office by illegal means.
His remark came on Sunday (Nov 10) addressing a discussion at the party chief's Banani offices.
“Hasina and Khaleda are both autocrat. How can you describe the current ruling party’s regime as democracy?”
“This face of democracy should rather be called autocracy,” said Ranga, who had served as state minister in the 2014-2018 Hasina-led Cabinet.
Claiming that the Awami League came to power in 1996 riding on the back of Jatiya Party, Ranga said “Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) wanted our support to have majority in parliament after 1996 election. BNP had offered Ershad to be prime minister which he [Ershad] turned down and joined the Awami League’s coalition.”
“After being out of office for 21 years, the Awami League formed government in 1996 with the support of Ershad and Jatiya Party MPs,” he added.
