Combination of photos shows BNP chief Khaleda Zia and Gono Forum and Jatiya Oikya Front chief Kamal HossainA delegation led by Jatiya Oikya Front convener Kamal Hossain will visit incarnated BNP chief Khaleda Zia, who is now undergoing treatment at a Dhaka hospital.
“We will hand the home minister a list of delegate in a couple of days. If given the clearance, top leaders of Oikya Front led by Kamal Hossain will visit Khaleda at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University,” alliance leader ASM Abdur Rab said on Sunday (Oct 20).
Rab, who is president of Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal-JSD, was speaking to the media after a meeting of the alliance at Kamal’s Motijheel office in Dhaka.
The visit, however, still hangs on the government clearing the alliance leader to meet the BNP chief, who has been in prison since the court handed her a five-year sentence for the Zia Charitable Trust case; later, at the appeal, the sentence was extended to 10 years in February, 2018,.
At present, there are 33 cases against the BNP chairperson. On Apr 1, she was admitted to the BSMMU.
A top Oikya Front leader told Bangla Tribune Kamal will “discuss important issues” with Khaleda during the visit.
“However, everything hangs in the balance on how the government takes the matter,” said the leader, who wished to go unnamed.
A top BNP leader said they think the visit would boost the morale of party activists since disbelief arose on the alliance after the 11th national election.
BNP leaders, too, hope Kamal would give legal counsel and assistance to release Kahaleda from jail after the visit, he added.
