The BNP has claimed that the government is slowly pushing its party chief Khaleda Zia towards death by depriving her right to bail.
“The government is intentionally doing it [intervening in the judiciary] in an effort to keep her away from politics as well as to slowly push her towards death,” Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam said on Saturday (Sep 21).
Speaking to the media reporters after a meeting of BNP’s National Standing Committee at the party chief’s Gulshan offices, Khaleda’s relatives met her on Friday and found her in a serious condition.
She has lost weight as she herself unable to eat anything due to her fragile health condition, according to Fakhrul.
He demanded the government release Khaleda from jail so that she can receive proper treatment at a hospital of her choice.
The Awami League government should step down following arrests of some of its leaders in the crackdown against gambling dens.
He said gambling has badly spread all over the country during current government as it has lost control on the state machinery. “They’re failing to control those who helped them grab power on December 29. Their party men and law enforcers have gone out of their control.”
All the state organs are collapsing as the government has no accountability and ‘legitimacy’, said the senior BNP leader.
