BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir addresses a rally in Thakurgaon.Reiterating the demand for a fresh election under a caretaker administration, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said he did not join the Parliament as it was not a “legal one”.
“It was the party’s decision,” he told a rally on Monday (Jun 17) in Thakurgaon.
Explaining the reason behind the other BNP MPs in the 11th Parliament, he said that the BNP cannot hold protests or rallies due to government oppression. “We are using the House as a medium to let the people know what we have to say.”
The country’s people, not the BNP, was defeated in the 11th parliamentary election as the ruling party ‘usurped’ power using guns and the state machinery, Mirza Fakhrul said.
“Awami League turned victorious rigging votes, but democracy got defeated in the election. So, a fresh election under a caretaker government must be held. The government will be forced to arrange a new election through a movement,” he added.
About the current budget, he said it is not a pro-people budget as it was designed only to protect the interests of a quarter.
He said huge money has been allocated in the budget only to provide salaries, and facilities to government officials, and employees.
