Khaleda receives dental care at BSMMU

The 74-year-old former prime minister was admitted to the BSMMU with pain in joints of her hands and legs, and diabetes on Monday (Apr 1).Jailed BNP chief Khaleda Zia, who is currently undergoing medical treatment at the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University Hospital (BSMMU), has received dental care.
The BNP chairperson was taken to the hospital's ‘A’ block from her Cabin No 621 for treatment on Wednesday (Jun 12), BSMMU Director Brigadier General AK Mahbubul Haque told the media after her treatment.
The 74-year-old was then brought back to her cabin about an hour later, he added.
At the dental unit, Khaleda was treated under the supervision of Mahmuda Akter, associate professor of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Department.
Khaleda has been suffering from fungal infections in her mouth and tongue caused by an uneven tooth that has been fixed, said BSMMU director Haque.
Replying a query on Khaleda’s health, Haque said, she is relatively better now and her diabetic is under control.
The former prime minister, who is serving a 17-year prison tern in two corruption cases, was transferred to the BSMMU on Apr 1 this year for treatment from the old jailhouse on Nazim Uddin Road.
She will be taken to the Keraniganj prison instead of old jailhouse after the treatment.
