Irate leaders and activists of Chhatra Dal have locked the main gate of BNP’s central office on Tuesday (Jun 11) around 11:30am.

At this time, they were heard chanting ‘we will not allow any conspiracy against Chhatra Dal’. They also gave slogans warning Awami League supporters.

At around 11:20am, BNP’s Vice Chairman Barkatullah Bulu, Organisational Secretary Fazlur Huq Milion, Publicity secretary Shahid Uddin Chowdhury Annie and others came in front of the office.

When the four leaders tried to enter the office, they were blocked by former committee members and, at point, an altercation ensued.

The leaders and workers of Chhatra Dal said that a committee has to be given without age limit. They also expressed resentment at Rizvi who is occupying two posts.

When senior BNP leaders wanted to sit at a local tea shop, Chhatra Dal workers and leaders shut the shop.

Regarding the agitation of the Chhatra Dal workers, Fazlul Huq Milon, said: “We will listen to their grievances and pass them on to the BNP acting chairperson, Tarique Rahman.”

On Jun 3, at the order of BNP’s acting chairman Tarique Rahman, the expired committee of Chhatra Dal was dissolved. The press notice of BNP said that those who had passed SSC or equivalent exam after 2000 will be eligible to become members of Chhatra Dal’s central council.

From that day, a large portion of senior leaders became indignant. However, a senior member of the previous committee, Ezmal Hossain Pilot, says, “We are not resentful; we just came here to have tea."
