BNP congratulates ModiBNP congratulated Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the resounding election victory of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

BNP senior leader Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury said: “We will send a congratulatory message to Modi through the Indian High Commission here very soon.”

BNP senior leader Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury on Friday (May 24) said democracy has become successful through the 17th Lok Sabha elections in India as people have been able to elect their representatives exercising their voting rights.

“The positive sign of India’s Lok Sabha elections is that the people of that country have been able to elect their representatives through voting. But the people of Bangladesh couldn’t do that in their polls,” he said.

Khosru said they want the Indian new government to give importance to the interest of the people of the two countries in intensifying the bilateral relations with Bangladesh.

Narendra Modi secured another five-year term after winning a landslide general election victory.

Official data from India's Election Commission showed BJP is set to win about 303 of the 543 seats in parliament.
