In Bangladesh, it’s entirely possible law enforcers, lawyers and even the court, says Awami League Presidium member and 14-party spokesperson Mohammad Nasim.
“Form a tribunal and resolve the rape cases soon,” he said during a program on Wednesday (May 15).
Terming the rapists as “bigger culprits than BNP-Jamaat”, the former minister added that a swift trial of rape cases will bring down the crime rate significantly.
“We are deeply perturbed by the daily occurrences of abuse on women, rape and child murder,” he said.
“How can a series of these incidents happen when the government is in power? How are the criminals wandering free?” Nasim asked.
He called on the law and home minister to take exemplary measures against these crimes and arrange for special tribunals if needed.
“Look at the foreign countries! The crimes go down because of the speedy trials,” he said.
The former health minister said that AL has never had to step down from power because they lost the people’s mandate but rather because of conspiracies.
Accusing BNP founder Ziaur Rahman as one of the perpetrators of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’s murder, he added, “His daughter achieved justice after a long struggle.”
He said that AL is at more risk now than ever as BNP is completely scattered and likely to formulate deep conspiracies.
