BNP to declare programmes to denounce violence against women

Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP)BNP has taken decision to give a countrywide programme to protest violence against women. The programmes may be declared on Tuesday (Apr 23) or Wednesday (Apr 24).
A decision in this regard was taken on Monday (Apr 22) at the BNP chairperson’s political office.
In the one hour meet from 8pm till 9pm, acting chairman of the party, Tarique Rahman, joined from London via Skype.
Rahman asked leaders to look after Khaleda Zia’s health and re-asserted BNP’s previous stance of not allowing the six elected contestants in the 11th National Elections to take oath.
BNP standing committee member said that many in the party are concerned over the killing of Nusrat Jahan Rafi and rising violence against women.
On Apr 15, a decision was taken to refrain from taking oath and that decision still stands, said members who took part in the Skype meet.
Another member of the standing committee said that an application may be made in the next few days to have Khaleda Zia treated in another hospital.
BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, Dr. Khondokar Mosharraf Hossain, barrister Moudud, barrister Jamir Uddin Sircar, Dr. Moin Khan, Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury and others were present at the meet.
