FILE PHOTO/Syed Zakir HossainBNP had a meeting to decide whether the party’s six MPs-elect of the the 11th Parliament will take oath or not. The meet was held at the chairperson’s office on Monday (Apr 15) night.
Mirza Fakhrul lost in Thakurgaon-2 but won from Khaleda Zia’s seat in Bogra-6.
Abdus Sattar, elected from Brahmanbaria, said: “A final decision on oath taking has not been taken as yet and the high command will soon take a decision on the matter.”
Md Harun ur Rashid, elected from Chapainawabganj, said: “we are positive about taking oath but a decision from the party has not been given as yet.”
Sources say that a strict warning has been given to party members against taking oath on own initiative.
As a party, BNP is still against taking oath; BNP led Oikya Front rejected the December 30, 2018 national elections accusing rigging, exploitation of law enforcers, administration and filling of ballot boxes prior to the night of the polls.
Two Gono Forum elected members, Sultan Mohammad Monsur Ahmed (Moulavibazaar-2) and Mokabbir Khan (Sylhet-2) have already taken oath.
For this, Sultan Mohammad Monsur was ousted from the party while Gono Forum president Dr. Kamal Hossain has ordered party general secretary Mostafa Mohsin Montu to expel Mokabbir Khan.
