The Awami League has said that no matter who wins the Upazila Council polls it will be a victory for boat.
“If BNP doesn’t take part in the polls and AL doesn’t win, then a rebel candidate will.” AL General Secretary Obaidul Quader told the media on Friday (Feb 15).
Quader added that since the rebel candidate is also from AL, it will mean a win for boat.
“What’s BNP’s gain if them not taking part in the polls sparks internal conflict in AL?” Quader asked, adding, “It’s not like the results will be in their favour.”
Responding to queries about whether contest for the Upazila chairman’s post will be opened, he said, “The vice chairman candidates can contest independently so that there is competition.
“But we have allocated the symbol of boat for the Upazila chairman posts and hence it’s not open.”
He said that no one can be termed as a rebel candidate until they announce and the last say of withdrawal of candidature.
