File Photo shows BNP Joint Secretary Genera Ruhul Kabir Rizvi speaks to media in Dhaka,BNP has alleged that the chief election commissioner’s (CEC) remarks on Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) by-polls are a blueprint to destroy the country’s election system.
On Tuesday (Feb 5), CEC KM Nurul Huda urged the election officials to make the DNCC polls, due on Feb 28, “as fair as the Dec 30 national polls.”
Speaking at a media briefing in Dhaka on Wednesday (Feb 6), BNP Senior Joint-Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi said, “His (Huda’s) remarks are a blueprint to tear down the country’s election system. The 11th parliamentary election gets credibility nowhere in the country and abroad.
“Members of Law enforcement agencies stuffed ballots on the night before the voting day (on Dec 30). Voters and opposition parties’ agents were denied entry to polling stations. Opposition candidates and activities came under attacks,” he said.
The senior BNP leader alleged that the CEC through his remarks has hinted to ‘cheat on the nation’ once again.
Citing a ‘hide-and-seek’ play is under way on granting bail to jailed party chief Khaleda Zia, Rizvi urged the government to free her from prison.
At the briefing, Rizvi also presented a list of BNP central leaders who are now behind bars that include its joint secretary Kairul Kabir Khokon, Habib Un Nabi Khan Sohel and Ruhul Quddus Talukdar Dulu.
