FOCUS BANGLAAwami League (AL) will not give nomination to upazila chairmen, who resigned to take part in the 11 national parliamentary elections. The party won’t give nomination to controversial people either.
Member of AL’s nomination board, agriculture minister, Dr Abdur Razzak, said, “Only those who are eligible and beyond criticism will get nomination for the UP elections.”
The party is using several ways to gather information about potential candidates, asking names from the grassroots.
AL will also take a stern position in dealing with rebellious candidates who took part in the national elections despite a request from the party to abstain. Many will face lifetime expulsion.
Grassroots have been asked to send three candidate names for UP elections.
The names will be sent to the zila committee president and general-secretary, who will then send it to AL president Sheikh Hasina’s office.
AL leader Faru Kan, said, “Those who abused power and created schisms within the party won’t get nomination.”
The UP election will be held from March in several phases and the schedule for the first stage of elections has been declared.
