Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader (l) and BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir (r)BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir should have resigned from his post after facing the worst defeat in the 11th Parliamentary Elections, said Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader.
His remarks came while addressing an audience at the AL headquarters on Wednesday (Jan 16), where he was the chief guest at a Dhaka South Jubo League meeting.
This is not the first time BNP has failed to wage a movement under his (Fakhrul’s) leadership, he said.
Criticizing the BNP secretary general as a “reckless driver” capable of causing an accident anytime, Quader said, “BNP participated in the polls after 10 years and won less than 10 seats out of 300.”
“He should have quit a long time ago given the failed protests and disgraceful loss at the polls.”
Regarding Fakhrul’s demand for a public apology on AL’s behalf for rigging the polls, Quader said, “If the polls were rigged, how did you (Fakhrul) win?”
