Jatiya Oikya Front leaders emerging from the offices of senior lawyer Dr Kamal Hossain at Dhaka’s Motijheel after holding Tuesday`s meeting. FOCUS BANGLAMembers of opposition alliance Jatiya Oikya Front’s policy-making Steering Committee will meet on Tuesday (Jan 8) to decide on their next course of action.

The meeting is scheduled for 4pm at coalition’s convener and Gano Forum chief Dr Kamal Hossain’s residence at Dhaka’s Bailey Road, said Latiful Bari Hameem, the media coordinator for Gano Forum.

Kamal Hossain, a former Awami League leader, formed the Jatiya Oikya Front alliance with the BNP and three other parties late last year eyeing the National Election held in December.

The ruling Awami League and its allies bagged 288 of the total 298 seats.

On the other hand, the Oikya Front got seven seats — five from the BNP and two from Gano Forum.

The opposition alliance has already announced that they have rejected the results citing widespread rigging, including stuffing ballots the night before Election Day— Dec 30.

It has submitted a memorandum to the Election Commission for fresh voting as well as urged Dhaka-based diplomats to convince the government.

The Oikya Front, however, has no plans to go for hard line protests now, according to insiders.

Tuesday’s meeting of the coalition’s top brass is likely to discuss on programmes to press the demand for fresh election, they said.
