Party flag of Awami LeagueThe ruling Awami League deems opposition Alliance Oikya Front’s pledge to continue the trial of war criminals if they win as a “farce.”
“They are contesting the polls with ‘paddy sheaf’ with more than 23 decedents of those war criminals,” AL Joint General Secretary Abdur Rahman told the media on Monday (Dec 17).
The fact that included continuation of war crime trials in their manifesto despite blatantly giving asylum to them is downright laughable and unbelievable,” he added.
“How can they take a stand against war-criminals when they themselves have harboured them and nominated them?,” he lashed out adding that including such a pledge in the polls manifesto was nothing more than a ploy to hoodwink the nation.
Terming the opposition alliance’s pledge to make the country corruption free, the senior AL leader said, “Khaleda Zia and Tarique Zia (Tarique Rahman) have both been convicted of graft. Them talking about freeing the country of corruption is nothing but hypocrisy.”
On Gano Forum chief Dr Kamal Hossain’s reservations about fair polls, Rahman said that it was a ploy to foil the upcoming polls slated for Dec 30.
“The polls will take place on Dec 30. Whatever isolated incidents took place was a result of their nomination trade and subsequent disappointment among party members,” he said.
